John Henry

John Henry was legendary for racing a steam-powered machine to build a railroad. A ballad is sung about this American legend and steel-driving man. In addition to teaching young people about the value of determination, hard work, and courage, this title provides background on the history surrounding the construction of our nation’s first railroads, westward expansion, and how the Industrial Revolution changed how work was done in America. This book also fits directly into the Common Core ELA standards.
