When irrepressible, loving beagle Bertie and his sister Molly are adopted separately, it’s a disaster. Bertie knows that Molly, with her bad paw, needs him to look after her.

Bertie is taken in by the kind and loving Green family: Mr Green, Granny Margaret, and ten-year-old Sam. But Bertie swiftly realises that the Green family is in crisis. After the tragic death of Sam’s mum two years ago, the family hasn’t yet recovered - and grief is pulling them apart.

As Christmas approaches Molly is still missing, and the Green family faces a more difficult time than ever. Never has a four-legged friend been more in need and brave, warm-hearted Bertie must rise to the challenge.
