This book forms part of our ‘Pook Press’ imprint, celebrating the golden age of illustration in children’s literature. Edited by Anna Alice Chapin, the author of ‘Humpty Dumpty’ and ‘The Everyday Fairy Book’, it contains classics of the genre. The Grimm’s ‘Snow White and the Magic Mirror’ and ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ are included, as is Charles Perrault’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Sleeping Beauty’ alongside Mme. D'Aulnoy’s ‘The Three Bears’ and other less well-known tales such as ‘The Mist Island’ and ‘Fairy Talk.’ All of these wonderful tales are accompanied by colour illustrations by Jessie Willcox Smith (1863-1935). She was a much celebrated American illustrator during the ‘Golden Age of Illustration’ and an incredibly prolific contributor to well respected books and magazines; a pioneering woman in the male-dominated world of fine-art. The fairy-tales are presented in their original translations, alongside Willcox Smith’s beautiful images.
