Humanism and Imagination

The ever-existing gap between poetry and academic criticism is seen by Elliott as a deep breach that can be overcome only by the development of a more historic, dramatic, and symbolic mode of imagination than we have exercised hitherto.
He believes that this development can be achieved and that a liberally interpreted Christianity is necessary to the poetic imagination that is to resolve the literary dilemma of our time.
