It’s the year after World War I ended, and Barney and Bruce – two kids from the far north (one from Canada, one from Alaska) – are looking for work in a town on Hudson’s Bay when a ship comes into harbor with an airplane in its hold. Now, remember, it’s not even the 1920s, yet and it’s not at all weird for airplanes to be disassembled, shipped around by boat or rail and rebuilt by whatever mechanics are to be found at the end of the line. But young as they are, Barney and Bruce served as aviators during the war – and they’re more than game for a trip to discover the north pole by air!
