Upon inspecting a charred part of the forest near their home; Belanna and her father, Marty a forest ranger, encounter a scorched and injured rabbit. Taking the rabbit to a local county veterinarian to be checked they find the veterinarian’s refuge is filled to capacity. The Veterinarian and Belanna’s father decide she will be the rabbit’s caretaker until it can be released back into the forest.
Knowing all wildlife needs to be returned to the wild Belanna is careful to not get personal with the rabbit. She tends to its basic needs and helps her father nurse the rabbits wounds.
Weeks later Belanna and her father attempt to release the rabbit into the forest, the rabbit repeatedly tries to follow Belanna. Belanna’s father concludes their only option is to adopt the rabbit. With great enthusiasm Belanna tells her father what the name for the rabbit should be and pleads with him to hurry home so they can tell her mother.
