The author describes his book as 'The stepping-stones of one ordinary person's journey through life'. However, there is nothing ordinary about the life-changing experiences that began while still a teenager after he met up with members of Subud, an Indonesian spiritual movement based at Coombe Springs near his hometown of Kingston, Surrey. Glimpses of the Soul reads like an almost unbelievable adventure story, but the author's insightful and self-deprecating observations have an authentic ring. And, unlike some other books on a similar topic, this is a very readable page-turner, seasoned with good humour.
