Peace and Equality: the story of the UN

Our world is full of billions of people. They mostly live and work alongside one another happily and in peace. But sometimes there are people who fight and start wars, break laws or do other things that make big problems for each other and our planet. The United Nations is a world organisation that helps to solve these problems, but when, why and how was it founded?

Written in partnership with the UN, this book explores the UN's beginnings, caused by the tragic and destructive world wars, looking at its peace-keeping beginnings before expanding to have in a role in other human rights and environmental issues, too.

The UN's story has changed through time and its evolution is marked by global changes and events. The organisation's purpose is to maintain international peace and security, give humanitarian assistance to those in need, protect human rights, and uphold international law. The UN remains the one place on Earth where all the world's nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity. In telling the story of the UN, we see how the world has changed and the movements of change the UN has supported in its quest for peace, dignity and equality for all.
