The Long Dark Journey: Charles C. McPeek Sr.

As a young boy Charles decides to help his father with support of their family of twenty. Having no choice but to quit school, at age eleven Charles works hard on the family farm to make ends meet. By age thirteen Charles finds himself involved with the illegal transportation of moonshine whiskey and before he could realize the path he was headed for he was already well on his way down it. As an alcoholic Charles faced many troubles and in hopes to out run them joined the Army. He soon finds that the death and destruction he must face only adds to the traumatic lifestyle he has chosen.
