Indians were still free and the only non indian people who live in this untamed wilderness where a group of rare, hardy men, called Mountain Men. Among this group is a Scottish teenager named Hezekiah MacGyver. Naive, but intelligent, hardworking and adventuresome, Hezekiah along with his best friend, runaway slave Steven Johnson, learn the ways of being a mountain man in what is commonly known as the Rocky Mountain College, under the tutelage of veteran Mountain Man Frazier Mathis and his beautiful Shoshone wife Cornflower. But Hezekiah quickly learns that these lessons come at a price, for life is seldom fair and that a man’s first lesson can and will cost him his life. Knowing what can go wrong usually does in the life of trapper, Hezekiah learns them quickly, who to trust and who not to trust, kill or be killed, but what Hezekiah didn’t expect from this harsh life he has chosen was to have his heart be captured by a young beautiful Nez Perce maiden named Born In Mist Woman. This is a story of adventure, faith, compassion and love in a world that was wild and unforgiving, one boy takes his journey to manhood with his head held high and without compromise and learns that the rewards for being true to himself and to the Creator of all things are unmeasurable.
