Born from a white Mother and black Father, Mary remembers and shares her feelings of what it was like growing up in 1950’s Britain, as a mixed race child. She battles with overt racism from both black and white as she tries to settle into a predominantly white society; never quite belonging there. A life that many mixed race children born in the UK today can still identity with, despite their growing numbers.. Mary recalls fond memories of her childhood with the love and affection of her adored Grand Mother, who raised her from a baby, as well as the painful ones. In her teens she discovers her black roots which influence the way she sees herself through other peoples eyes. The emotional pull away from her childhood perceptions and values, forces her to make choices between her black and white bloodline.
