Best defined as a hermeneutical synthesis, “Foundations of Christianity” is based on some of the most solid historical and biblical expertise and emphasizes the essentials of Christianity as lived and preached by Jesus of Nazareth. It departs from the premise that Christians are called to follow the man from Nazareth, not a god walking on earth. It conternds that they cannot find the true Christ of their faith unless they find the historical Jesus and his God first. It also argues that a faith that does not speak of and to the human condition is not Christian, it does not come from Jesus. This work ties everything that the author sees as authentically Christian to the story of the historical Jesus as found in the four gospels. It also mixes in Christological comments that are directly connected with the Man from Nazareth. interpreting Jesus’ words within their historical and cultural contexts. It looks at the Christian faith vis-a-vis the realities of the 21st century and the need for Christians and all peoples to heed the example of the human Jesus.
