Saint Bede
Bede's Ecclesiastical History of England is a historical account of the early Christian church in England, written by the English monk and scholar, Bede. The book covers the period from the arrival of the Romans in Britain in 55 BC to the early 8th century, and is considered one of the most important sources for the history of early medieval England. Bede's work provides a detailed account of the conversion of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms to Christianity, including the role of missionaries such as Augustine of Canterbury and the establishment of monasteries. The book also includes accounts of important events such as the Synod of Whitby, which helped to establish the Roman Catholic Church in England, and the rise of the Northumbrian kingdom under King Edwin. Bede's Ecclesiastical History of England is a valuable resource for historians and scholars of medieval Christianity, and remains an important work in the history of England.
