Olympia witherspoon is asked to work on a prblem for guy knightley who is visiting tucson, arizona from england. Knightley is searching for a child he fathered many years ago and whose birth mother is thought to be in tucson. He is traveling with his niece, felicity, beautiful, ruthless, and dangerous. A murder has taken place and jewelry stolen from some of the weathier homes in the foothills.

The murder is at the home of the rossiter-dillinghams during a social occasion. Knightley was there as was olympia who has reason to believe felicity arrived through an upstairs window with the help of others. Was knightley involved?

Roscoe tipster and olympia are old friends. He has taken over her detective business and they still work together and solve the puzzle of this complicated plot. Knightly also finds the daughter he is seeking but cannot have her. It is a complicated plot which, after a series of misshaps and close calls, is finally rersolved.
