He was born in Trenton, South Carolina. He is married to Betty Butler, and they have a son, Darold Germaine Butler. Calvin Butler’s selection of poems addresses the poet’s emotions towards life in the midst of inner turmoil and his spiritual growth. The range of his subjects expresses an evolution of growth from his early teenage years where he was very timid and quiet to the present where he has become spiritually mature. His poems speaks of love, spirituality, mysteries, and inner turmoil. His poems in many instances echo his spirit and soul. His poems tells a lot about his individuality.
