Hadrian the Seventh
Baron Frederick Corvo
Hadrian the Seventh
Baron Frederick Corvo
- The English novelist, Frederick Rolfe, used the name Baron Corvo, saying it had been given to him as a gift. He was a convert to Catholicism and tried unsuccessfully on a number of occasions to become a priest. His novel, Hadrian the Seventh is a bizarre tale of a failed writer who is elected Pope, providing a compensation for Rolfe’s rejections and a vehicle for savage revenge on his enemies.
