This study investigates the symbolically charged double axe as a tool in Crete during the Minoan period. Twenty three double axes are examined for traces of manufacturing methods and different use-wear in conjunction with experimental work to establish possible usage. Three principal kinds of activity are identified (carpentry, stonemasonry and butchering) and means of distinguishing these activities through use-wear analysis suggested.
