Throughout his long life, Michelangelo Buonarroti created masterpieces in sculpture, painting, and architecture. During the Italian Renaissance, there was a resurgence of interest in classical art, and Michelangelo was captivated by the way Roman and Greek artists had shown the human body. Students will be introduced to his lifelike sculptures such as the Pieta, David, and Moses. This book retells the dramatic story of Michelangelo’s life during the powerful Medici family’s rule in Florence and of his projects for the popes in Rome, including the frescos in the Sistine Chapel.
