Thomas Hobbes: An English Philosopher in the Age of Reason

Hobbes was a prominent philosopher, writer, and mathematician in seventeenth-century England. His ideas, writings, and political philosophies greatly influenced the thought and morality of the times, and continue to have an impact on morality to this day. His idea of social contract–the view that peoples’ moral and political obligations are dependent upon an agreement between them to form society–is one of the most dominant theories in moral and political theory in modern history.
