A Comedian in lockdown.

A Comedian in lockdown is a regular Diary I wrote during lockdown. It includes humorous observations, and reflections of my life during that time and freshly written comedy routines which I was not able to perform in front of an audience but which also work in a written form.

Other pages are devoted to my recollections of starting out as a comedian in London in the late eighties, having left Dublin with just one joke. Despite the initial paucity of material when I arrived in London, I explain how I still somehow managed to acquire a stand up spot a year later on a modish Stand Up show on TV at the time called
Saturday Night Live .

The Diary also notates stories about my regular visits to my local supermarket and my ongoing awkward conversations with the resident butcher in the supermarket who could be described as ‘ pathologically ’ anti-vegetarian.

I highlight my predicament with a busker, who performs regularly outside the supermarket, as a result of the time I accidentally dropped a GBP20 note into his bucket which fell from my hand at the same time I was dropping some coins into it, and my clumsy attempt to retrieve the GBP20.

The Diary will further feature a number of humorous photographs, an area of creative output I have discovered during the long months of lockdown. The photos received huge responses when I posted them on my twitter account…@redmondmichael1

Nearer the end of the Diary, there is a regular update about a possible romantic attachment to a female neighbour who lives directly across the street from me. Our initial contact stems from when we were both cleaning our windows at the same time and I mistook her hand movement on her window as a wave towards me. The early stages of the possible relationship are defined by conversations conducted across the airwaves of our street from our sitting room windows.
