A CAPTIVATING RAIL JOURNEY ON A FLIGHT OF THE IMAGINATION…… No Beeching, No Marples, so why not take a train ride on the 17.42 evening commuter service form Bath Green Park to Evercreech Junction, calling at all stations, circa mid 1980s. Sounds a delightful fantasy, but who I hear you ask is Bahramov. Well he will become apparent later in the journey as we glide effortlessly over the Mendip Hills and dream of what may have been. In 1966 steam services were withdrawn from the Somerset & Dorset and replaced with diesel locomotion by British Rail. It opened up a brand new world, journey times were reduced with more frequent trains creating achievable connections to Bristol and London from rural Somerset for the first time. It was now possible to visit London for the day, far easier than it was back in the summer of 1966, and there lies a clue to Mr Bahramov.
