William Frederick Cody, known as "Buffalo Bill", was an American soldier, bison hunter, and showman. He became a rider for the Pony Express at age 15. During the American Civil War he served as a scout, and afterwards as a civilian scout, buffalo hunter and stagecoach driver. In 1872 he began his Wild West shows, traveling all over the country and Europe.
