John Nally, or Nalley, arrived in Maryland from Europe about 1680 and settled in Charles County, Maryland. By 1693 he married Jane Husculaw; within 70 years their descendants began to spread into the South and Midwest.

Due to a lack of documentation, the Nalley family has been poorly understood, and for this reason, a full reconstruction of the family tree has never been attempted. After eight years of research, the Nalley family tree has been compiled down to the seventh generation, encompassing various states.
