Even in early adolescence, Jordan Rivers knew he was different. When he meets Jericho Diggs in Jr. High, their friendship appears normal but is laced with feelings neither can yet fully understand. When Jericho's father, a well-known pastor in Vicksburg, Mississippi, discovers the many letters the boys have sent to each other, he mercilessly beats Jericho with an extension cord and leaves the room without a word.
