Prime is an office of prayer and psalms that traditionally takes place one hour after dawn. It is the last office prayed before the beginning of the work day. Prime was a cherished part of the spiritual repertoire of a great many Christians, especially monastics, until the Second Vatican Council removed Prime from the Daily Office.
