Harry Jackson (1924-2011), an early abstract expressionist artist, later achieved his greatest fame as a creator of American Western representational bronzes. Dissatisfied with the Range Burial bronze, the artist created a smaller and less crowded version entitled Plantin'. Photographs and archival research now reveal that the only possible model for the Range Burial painting was not the Range Burial bronze, but rather was cast no. 1 of Plantin'. The developmental evolution of this sculpture is traced through all the known casts, utilizing Mr. Jackson's notes and casting records. The catalogues raisonnes of Mr. Jackson's bronze groupings Plantin', Range Burial, and Stampede are included as Appendices.
