At the time I purchased my first spoon from Dan Dustin, in the early 1970s, I had no knowledge of wooden spoons, their history, or the work of any other spoon carvers. That simple inexpensive purchase set me forth on a wonderful continuing journey of almost forty years. Shortly afterwards I met Barry Gordon and Norm Sartorius at regional craft shows and began to purchase their work. Since that time I have acquired well over 500 contemporary spoons, including now more than 375 nine inch teaspoons. Carvers from around the world created almost all of those small treasures specifically for that collection. A Gathering of Spoons (Linden, 2012) describes that project in detail and contains photographs of the first 283 9" spoons. This short treatise includes photographs of some 9", and other, spoons added since that earlier book. -Norman Stevens
