The book Poems to Guard the Fire is a collection of verses written for my younger brother to keep the fire towards Jesus alive and warm in his heart. Jesus is fascinating. He is wild and unsafe. Sometimes the monotony of our liturgy or tradition leaves us chanting the lyrics to ancient hymns without thinking of their meaning. What Jesus did for us is awe-inspiring. It is breath-taking. He was everything or nothing. He is lightning and thunder and magic and beauty or he is nothing at all. There is no in between.
