This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1877 edition. Excerpt: …This day may we do whatever Thou hast appointed for us to do. And may we, through Thy grace, do it aright; in faith, and truth, and love. Keep us humble. Preserve us from self-confidence. Enable us to walk warily. We are beset with dangers, and compassed with infirmity. Gracious Lord, be Thou our arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble. Give us this day the help of Thy Holy Spirit in our hearts, and keep us from sinning against Thee. Make us patient under all provocations that we may meet with to-day. Let us not be provoked to speak unadvisedly, or to think unkindly. Give us the spirit of meekness. Help us to be gentle towards all. Keep us from pride and self-will, from envy and jealousy, from despising others. Teach us, in lowliness of mind, to esteem others better than ourselves. May we, as a household, pass this day in unity. May no angry feeling arise, may no harsh words be spoken, among us. Grant that there may be among us to-day no breach of the law of love. Preserve us from being ashamed of Christ. If called this day to suffer reproach for His name’s sake, make us willing. If called to speak for our Lord, when we would fain be silent, make us faithful. Help us to follow Thee fully. O heavenly Father, give to each of us a truly devoted heart. May we not render to Thee a half-service. May we love Thee more for Thy great love to us. And all that Thou mayest call us to do in serving Thee, may it be our delight to do. Bless the absent members of this family. Bless all at a'distance who are dear to us. Look upon them, wherever they are; give them a share in the blessings that we seek for ourselves; give to them, both for soul and for body, all that Thou seest to be good. Hear us. gracious Father, in these our…
