Irvin S. Cobb (born June 23, 1876, Paducah, Kentucky, U.S.-died March 10, 1944, New York City, New York) was an American humorist and newspaper columnist for The Saturday Evening Post and Cosmopolitan. He wrote more than 60 books and 300 short stories. He is best known for his Judge Priest stories. Speaking of Operations is a monologue about the author's experience in having an operation in 1915 written in his typical tongue-in-cheek style.
