Following her execution, the pro-Catholic cause remains in a state of unrest in Scotland, forcing James to make difficult decisions against his alliance with the English State to secure his succession. With Queen Elizabeth I set to die childless, Scotland and England will be united for the first time in History under his reign. To establish a Great Britain, King James must overcome challenges from Catholic loyalists seeking to depose him, conspiracies with witchcraft sorcery and a gunpowder plot aimed to destroy the King and Parliament. This historical fiction novel will tell James's story from his reign in Scotland until his crossover to the English Privy Council using contemporary sources, evidence and the interpretation of historians who have studied this period. As a history student from Stirling, author Gary Maclachlan dives deep into the reigns of the Stuart and Tudor monarchs, taking great interest in the different characters and their legacies.
