Il e stato concepito come libro di testo a un corso sulla storia della Foresta Boreale Europea. Siccome la stragrande parte di questa foresta e nel territorio dell'odierna Federazione Russa, la sua storia e strettamente collegata al Medioevo Russo e alle etnie che in questa Europa del Nordest sono vissute insieme. Oggi molto e cambiato, gli alberi di ieri sono stati sostituiti da altri o addirittuta eliminati in una deforestazione ingiustificata, ma la foresta come ambiente seppur diverso in mille anni storia e ancora li e conserva le tracce del suo passato non soltanto nel terreno, ma anche nelle tradizioni slavo-russe che noi abbiamo cercato di far rivivere nello scritto.
