Friedrich Johann is a young Luftwaffe officer, who is shot down at the end of September 1939 above Poland. He is gravely wounded and is not allowed to fly anymore. He is assigned the position as commander of a small airfield in the Netherlands. Christmas 1940 he marries the sweetheart of his youth and lives with her from early 1941 in the country till May 1945. Their life is described in a number of events, which somtimes seem improbable. Especially the end of the war for them looks as a hardly believable fairy tale.
