Lope de Vega wrote only a handful of prose works, of which The Pilgrim of Castile is one. Sometimes referred to as picaresque, it is a Byzantine romance or adventure novel, full of twists and turns and containing what George Borrow referred to as "decidedly the best ghost story in the world."
