She was on the Communist Party ticket. She won worldwide recognition for leading the Campaign to Free Angela Davis and all Political Prisoners in the 1970s. In the 1990s, she led a significant group to leave the Communist Party and form the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism.
