Won Ho Chang was born in Korea, received his BA in political science at Korea University in1961, and worked for a United Nations project for three years before crossing the Pacific to study in the United States. He arrived at the University of Oregon for his BA in Journalism when he was 28, and completed his degree in 1968. He moved on for his graduate program and received his Journalism MA degree at the University of Southern California in 1970, and was awarded his doctoral degree in Mass Communication at the University of Iowa in 1972. Dr. Chang started his teaching career at the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 1972, was honored as the McIntire Distinguished Chair Professor, worked as a department chair, director of the Stephenson Research Center, and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research. During his career, he supervised 33 doctoral dissertations, wrote 18 books, spearheaded the use of word processing in printing newspapers, helped to establish the China Daily in 1981, and helped motivate young journalists in United States, and all over the world. Won Ho retired from the University of Missouri after 30 years of service, and moved to Laguna Woods Village in Southern California in 2004. His retirement life now consists of works, exercise, travel and meditation.
