Retired Air Force pilot, Tyler Friesen, becomes a writer and not too good at it when Lt Gen Howe sends him to the Eastern Frontier to look for a missing cargo of rutile ore and a fugitive. Meanwhile, an FBI agent was assassinated in Budapest and a fabricated story appeared in Nepszava claiming his name was Robert D Maxwell. All this links to a dummy company through which CIA obtains titanium for their spy plane programmes. Arriving at Budapest, Friesen picks a lead within hours but he hastens to go to Armenia where he undergoes a meditation of the Kabbalah. By now, Friesen was aware of the KGB on his tail. Dressed like a Haredi, he poses at the station to catch the train to Georgia when a GAZ breaks to a halt and armed men of the militia seize him.
