Completing the 5th pillar of Islam--the Hajj--is a once in a lifetime opportunity and many Muslims do not complete it. The completion of the Hajj in my second year after converting to Islam revealed my determination to be a practicing Muslim or did it? The Hajj presented me with an opportunity to see the long whispered troubles I heard about the Ummah in numerous lectures and experienced in the masjid. The troubles of Nationalism, Racism, Tribalism, and Sexism can be found in any religion. These isms that I witnessed during the Hajj and witnessing three Muslim sisters leaving the religion caused me to reevaluate my belief in Islam in the months after I returned home and it illuminated a new knowledge path that I ignored my entire life.
