These are homestead papers of Fritz, Stanislaus, and Gregor Hytrek and Madgalena and Frank Frost, homesteaders who came from Poland (then Germany) and settled in the Sandhills of Nebraska. The homestead records contain the dates the settlers made residency on the tracts; the legal description of each tract explaining where each one was; explanations of any personal absences; citizenship papers; descriptions of the crops cultivated and value; the improvements made in the form of home, barns, granaries, and the values thereof; the contents of the home; descriptions of the farm implements; in the case of tree claims, the kinds of trees planted, their growth status, the numbers of acres in trees, the dates of planting; and dollar values of the crops and improvements. There are receipts for fees paid, and dates of final patenting of the lands. Maps locate the Hytrek homeplaces,the Hytrek and Dlugosh schools, and included are the tractbook entries recorded at the land office when the settlers entered their claims.
