This is a light hearted fictional look at the unstoppable rise of a useless teacher who could not be sacked for incompetence. And Austin Buggins was incompetent, being a failure at everything he touched. Each time he was found a new post with more money, eventually honours as well, as he slowly rose by way of Quangos, through the media to a senior post in Europe. His contribution to the banking crisis of 2008 was probably his finest hour. Assisted by his hated, capitalist brother Bentley, he safely guided the country through the financial ruins before being appointed to one of the most important jobs in the land. At least that's what the authorised biography said and that work was supervised by his upwordley mobile but extremely Left wing wife, Joan. It was only the arrival of the unauthorised biography that put a halt to the advance of the great man, so saving the incoming administration the problem of getting rid of him. Only after he had finally ruined the country could they do that.
