Wat is poezie? Toen iemand bij de Amerikaanse dichter Robert Frost aandrong met die vraag, antwoordde deze: "Poetry is the kind of thing poets write." Die vraag heeft me nooit geboeid. Interessanter lijkt me: wat doet poezie met mij? Sinds mijn eerste contacten met poezie ben ik zelf op zoek gegaan en heb mijn eigen verhouding met gedichten gevonden. De teksten in dit bundel zijn daar een uiting van: mijn visie op het sonnet, op de nabijheid van poezie, vertalingen en commentaar op gedichten van Pablo Neruda, Seamus Heaney, Elizabeth Bishop en anderen.
