A Dream of a Garden and Other Poems (1894)

When Jewel returns to her hometown as a single woman once again, she must decide what to do with her inheritance–a deserted, dilapidated two-story home. She must decide on selling the prime acreage or making it home. Soon she finds that danger lurks nearer and nearer to her but she cannot prove this to anyone. Someone is stalking her. She knows no one believes her, not even the police. There is never any proof of this, nor can it be explained away. No matter which way she turns and no matter who she decides to trust, she gets no relief from the fear she knows will turn into reality. Finally, with no one to trust or confide in, Jewel must find the stalker herself and do whatever needs to be done. She must take matters into her own hands as she remembers the horrors of the last time she lived in that area. Is her past just making her insane, or is her past making her stronger? Jewel is ready to fight, not only for her life but also for her sanity.
