At the young age of twelve, Henry is part of the remains of the Civil War. He has lost his family to the hands of the Raiders. He does not know the whereabouts of his two older brothers who left home to go fight for Southern justice. Befriended by General John Hood, Henry becomes his assistant. Five years after the end of the war, a naive and vengeful Henry travels to Savannah, Georgia, with General Hood on business. While in Savannah, Henry endures many trials and perils. The two travelers meet up with General Robert E. Lee. During their stay, the two Generals have a confrontation with General William Sherman who also travels to Savannah. Henry falls in love for the first time in his life with Caroline. To his dismay, the woman he loves is sent away by her angered father. Henry searches for his brothers and his lost love.
