John Suter thought it should be dark. Night is the time for ghouls to come out. There should be rain, black and cold. Flaming torches should flicker in an icy wind. Perhaps high on the rocks, above this ghastly scene, there should be a monstrous silhouette. It should be seen in lightning flashes, its voice heard in concert with the thunder as it rants at its evil gods. Ghastly things like this should not be seen in the light of day. Especially a day of puffy white clouds and bright blue skies. John Suter watched as men working in a ditch near Red Rocks Park filled bags with the remains of young people. As the bags piled up at the side of the road, John felt sick at his stomach. Those bags were the first real indication of the true magnitude of what he and Patty Bell were up against.
