Deborah Ames is two-faced. While obeying her parents by becoming an organist for a Pittsburgh church, she plans her piano debut at Carnegie Hall and dreams of marriage to her college love. Meanwhile, she attracts the attention of Mrs. Saul Cohen, a member of the board of the Pittsburgh Symphony, and Mrs. Cohen’s son, Maury, who is the concertmaster. After Deborah is accepted at Peabody Conservatory of Music, Maury settles her into an apartment in Baltimore. Of course he returns…. Meanwhile, Deborah finds great pleasure in the company of Jeremy Markham…And then-morning nausea. Is she pregnant?
