Believers need one another desperately, and we must love one another with God’s agape love. We are born again into union with one another because we all share the same life-source - God Himself. Although the people in the Upper Room were of one accord as they awaited the empowering of the Holy Spirit, the wide-spread unity experienced as the church was ushered in was short-lived. By the middle of the first century Paul was imploring his readers over and over again to come into unity. Christian unity is based on our being bonded with one another in Christ from the core of our being, while the world experiences only a surface, outward, uniting by sharing common goals and interests. We must understand this difference, lest we move toward unifying as the unregenerate do and miss the heart-cry of our Lord - for us to be one as He and the Father are one.
