During one of the worst storms in the history of Yosemite Valley in California, a stagecoach is sent out from the small town of El Portal. The coach risks the trip at night because of a series of daytime robberies. However, this turns out to be a horrible mistake for passengers and crew. The stagecoach is held up, and all those aboard except one are killed. A small eleven-and-a-half-year-old boy survives. The bandits end up not getting the large shipment of gold, the stagecoach is lost in the river, and all are lost with it-except for the boy, Jagar, who manages to crawl out of harm’s way just before the coach disappears in the river. He ends up meeting a cast of characters from the miners of gold, tough as nails, but mostly good-natured gentlemen to One-eyed Jack and his burrows. He makes many new friends including two American Indians, Chris and Virgil.
