Il Giuramento, also known as The Oath, is an Italian opera composed by Giuseppe Saverio Raffaele Mercadante in 1848. The story takes place in a medieval setting and revolves around the love triangle between the Count of Syracuse, his wife Isaura, and her former lover, the Duke of Calabria. The Count is suspicious of Isaura's loyalty and demands that she swear an oath of fidelity. However, the Duke of Calabria is determined to win Isaura back and uses deceitful tactics to try and ruin the Count's reputation. The drama unfolds as the characters navigate their conflicting desires and honor their sworn oaths. The music features soaring arias, duets, and ensembles that capture the emotional intensity of the story.
