The Kidnapping is a story of friends, Maggie and Don, who were kidnapped. In order to save Donas life, Maggie has to follow the kidnapperas strange demands. Maggie and Don are torn as to what to do about the situation, being that she is married to Jack, Donas best friend, and Don is married to Janice, Maggieas best friend. They decide to keep what happened a secret between them, which causes Maggie to withdraw from her husband. After much insisting, Maggie gives in to her husband who wants her to see someone, a psychiatrist, Dr. Amelia Shelley. Amelia is a single woman approaching middle-age and lives with her outspoken mother. An unusual situation leads Amelia to an unexpected love interest. In the end, secrets are revealed, relationships are strengthened and relationships are destroyed.
