Beauchamp details the experiences of a group of strangers as they band together to help a mutual friend. As Beauchamp opens, Irving Hammond Beauchamp II comes to the aid of a small wagon train under attack from hostile Indians. Upon closer inspection, however, he realizes that the attackers are not actually Indians. As he agrees to accompany the travelers to the nearest town where they can hire guards to travel with them, Beauchamp wonders why several men disguised as Indians would attack the wagon train. After some discussion, Beau and the travelers realize that they have all been summoned to Phoenix by their mutual friend, Hoot Henderson, after a mysterious plea for help. Beau also learns the reason for the attack: Herb, Nate, Frenchy and Annie are transporting a brand new Gattling gun to be used in the protection of a gold mine that has been discovered on Hootas property. When Beau and the others arrive in Phoenix, each must use his or her special talent to thwart the plans of the greedy and villainous Stammer.
